Training Doctors

We are an approved training practice for qualified doctors and medical students to gain experience in general practice. You will always be asked whether you are happy for a qualified doctor or medical student to sit in during your consultation. For training purposes, some consultations will be recorded by video camera. This will only be done with the full understanding and written consent of the patient involved.

Nurse Practitioners

Our Advanced Nurse Practitioners are highly experienced members of the Practice Team who are able to diagnose and treat your healthcare needs or refer you to an appropriate specialist if needed. Acting within their professional boundaries; they will provide care for patients from an initial history taking, clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of care.

Nurses

Our practice nurse, Janette Welsh, provides chronic disease management clinics including Asthma, Diabetes, Hypertension, COPD, Cervical Screening, Health Promotion and Warfarin monitoring.

Treatment Room Nurses

Nursing staff in the Treatment Room are employed by the South Eastern Health & Social Services Trust. They are available for taking blood samples, checking blood pressure, giving injections, dressing wounds, and removing sutures, etc.

Practice Management

Our Practice Business Manager, Helen Ewart, is responsible for the overall management and development of the Practice. Qualifications: BA (Hons) Business Studies, BSc (Hons) Business Management, Dip LCCI Administration, Dip Legal Studies.

Reception

In addition to the doctors and nursing staff, the Practice employs 6 receptionists, some of whom are part-time. They are available to answer patients' enquiries and book appointments. They manage requests for repeat prescriptions and will communicate results of tests where appropriate. Their job is very busy and demanding so please be patient. Our Reception Manager, Roberta Crothers, is responsible for the day-to-day running of the practice, including co-ordination of clinics and surgeries.

Pharmacists

Our Practice Pharmacist, Colette Flanagan (Pharm, Independent Prescribing), is employed by the GP Federation and works part-time in the Practice. They help manage medication queries and medication reviews.

Community Midwives

The Community Midwives provide care for mothers before, during and after delivery and for the baby during the first weeks of life. They hold an Ante-Natal Clinic every week at the Midwifery Unit, Lagan Valley Hospital and can be contacted on 028 9266 5141 (ask for the Red Team).

Community Nurses

We have a team of District Nurses attached to the Practice who provide expert nursing care for patients who are unable to attend the surgery. The District Nurses are in daily contact with the Practice and will assist in organising care outside of hospital, as required. They can contacted through our reception.

Health Visitors

There is a health visitor attached to the practice who is available to give advice on all health matters relating to children. The Health Visitor can be contacted through the reception.

Public Health Nurse

There is a Child Health Nurse attached to the Practice who will administer childhood immunisations to children up to 5 years of age. Eight week baby immunisations and assessment are done by the doctor.

Other services to which you may be referred within the Lisburn Health Centre include Community Family Planning, Community Psychiatric Services, Occupational Therapy, Orthoptics, Podiatry, Social Services and Speech Therapy.
